Attorney Profile

My current law practice involves real estate, oil & gas, business transactions, and general representation of businesses, partnerships, residential and commercial property owner associations, and nonprofit entities.

For real estate clients, I regularly negotiate and draft real estate contracts; closing documents; easements; condominium documents; property owner association documents; development contracts; planning & zoning matters; ad valorem property tax matters; and related disputes.

During the past 20 years I have represented numerous private property owners, neighborhood associations, churches, and other nonprofit organizations in oil & gas lease negotiations with energy companies planning to drill in the Barnett Shale formation in north central Texas and in formations in other parts of the State of Texas, and have assisted with surface use agreements, title opinions, pipeline easement and right-of-way agreements, condemnation proceedings, litigation, and other energy related projects.

I have served three one-year terms as chairman of the Tarrant County Bar Association's Real Estate Section and I also am a member of TCBA's Energy Section, Construction Law Section, and Environmental Law Section.  I am a frequent speaker and panelist at professional education programs on topics of real estate, oil & gas leasing and related issues, notary law, corporate law, and ethics.

I am a long-time member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the Tarrant County Bar Association (former Director for 2 years, Sec-Tr, VP, President-Elect, and President [from July 2016--June 2017], and I currently serve as Immediate Past President [July 2017--June 2018]).  I am a member of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics, College of the State Bar of Texas, American Bar Foundation, Texas Bar Foundation, and Tarrant County Bar Foundation.

I was a member of the City of Fort Worth's Zoning Commission for three years (2011-2014) and previously was a member of the City of Fort Worth's Board of Adjustment for Commercial cases (2006-2011) and served as Chairman of that Board for 4 years (2008-2011).
