A 1973 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Mr. Tanner attended The University of Texas School of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 1976. The State Bar of Texas admitted him to practice that same year, and he is also admitted to practice before all U.S. District Courts in Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th and 10th Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Widely regarded as a leader in his field, Mr. Tanner has served in leadership roles for a number of professional legal organizations. He is the former co-chair of the National Employment Lawyers Association Labor Law Practice Group and past chair of both The State Bar of Texas Labor and Employment Law Section and the Tarrant County Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section. He is also a founding member and former director of the Texas Employment Lawyers Association.

In addition, Mr. Tanner has many publications to his credit, and he had conducted numerous lectures and seminars across his region on a variety of topics related to labor and employment law. He is also an active member of the Dallas County Bar Association and the American Bar Association, as well as past director of the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee.

Recognized for his professionalism and service, Mr. Tanner has earned designation from The Best Lawyers in America from 1996 to 2016, and both Texas Lawyer magazine and Fort Worth Business Press named him among the top labor and employment law attorneys in Tarrant County as well as the entire state. Mr. Tanner is also a Fellow with The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, the American Bar Foundation, and the Texas Bar Foundation.
