She is admitted to practice in the state of Texas and formerly in the state of Illinois. Ms. Villegas is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Currently, she has an active membership in the American Immigration Lawyers Association, along with the organization’s Texas chapter.

In 2001, Ms. Villegas graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University. She then attended the University of Texas – Pan American, where she earned her Master of Business Administration. The next step in her education began at the University of Houston where she graduated with a Master of Social Work. In 2009, she earned her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law.

While in law school, Ms. Villegas was an active participant in the Immigration and Asylum Law Clinic and focused on immigration law, refugee law, international human rights and international law. Before starting law school, she attended the Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Summer Program at the American University Washington College of Law. As a social worker, she fought for the equal rights of women in Costa Rica and for refugees in the Houston area
