Charles F. Herd Jr. is a maritime attorney and the founder of Herd Law Firm in Houston, Texas. Concentrating his practice exclusively on admiralty and maritime law, Mr. Herd serves clients throughout Houston. 

A practicing attorney for over 35 years, Mr. Herd handles maritime-related commercial matters, maritime-related product liability claims, cases under the Jones Act and other general maritime-related claims. He is experienced with litigation and alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration and mediation. He has practiced admiralty and maritime law throughout his legal career. 

Mr. Herd serves as a guest lecturer for an admiralty course at the University of Houston Law Center. He is a proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, a board member of the Houston Maritime Arbitrators Association and a member of the Houston Mariners Club, the Propeller Club of Houston and the Port of Louisville Propeller Club.

Additionally, Mr. Herd belongs to the Houston Trial Lawyers Association, the Houston Northwest Bar Association, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. He serves his community through volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, sitting on the board of the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce and serving as chair of the Cypress Creek Parkway management district task force.

Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Mr. Herd earned a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University. He went on to receive his law degree from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. He also holds a master of laws degree in admiralty from Tulane University School of Law. He holds licenses to practice law before several state and federal courts and the Supreme Court of the United States.
