Edward M. Chernoff

As founder of Chernoff Law, Edward M. Chernoff is dedicated to helping people navigate the criminal justice system. He represents clients in Houston, Texas, who face charges at both the state and federal level. An accomplished litigator, he has consistently returned dismissals, acquittals and other favorable actions on behalf of clients.

Before moving into defense, Mr. Chernoff served as assistant district attorney in Harris County. In that time, he took 70 cases to jury trial, losing only one felony case. This experience has proved invaluable in his practice today, as he is able to predict what the state may do when bringing charges against a client. Not only does he have an impeccable attention to detail when building a defense, but he also knows how to find holes in the prosecution’s argument.

The Texas Board of Legal Specialization certified Mr. Chernoff in criminal law more than 25 years ago. Fluent in English and Spanish, he is able to work with clients from all walks of life.

In one case, Mr. Chernoff represented a client who was acquitted after just 15 minutes of jury deliberation – the record for an acquittal in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. This is just one of the reasons Mr. Chernoff has such an excellent reputation. He holds an Avvo “Superb” rating.

In 1984, Mr. Chernoff earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Florida. He then attended the University of Houston Law Center on scholarship, receiving a Juris Doctor in 1987.

Mr. Chernoff is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the State Bar of California and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
