Details

A co-founder of Vinas & Graham, PLLC, Joe Vinas focuses his practice on criminal defense matters. From the firm’s office in Houston, Texas, he provides effective advocacy on behalf of clients throughout the greater metropolitan area. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Vinas spent several years as a prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, and he draws on this experience in order to anticipate the tactics that he now faces when defending his clients. He has been admitted to practice in Texas since 2002, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. In addition, Mr. Vinas has been certified as a specialist in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Mr. Vinas represents people who have been accused by the state or federal government with having committed felony or misdemeanor offenses. The types of cases that he has handled have included homicide, drug possession and distribution, domestic violence, robbery, weapons violations, money laundering and other white collar crimes, RICO allegations, arson, sexual assault, and conspiracy. Mr. Vinas has obtained positive results for his clients through dismissals, acquittals, reversals on appeal and the negotiation of favorable plea agreements with the prosecution, and this has led to a great deal of recognition from his colleagues, including a “Superb” peer review rating through Avvo. In addition, he has been named to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100.

Mr. Vinas majored in biology at the University of Texas at Austin and received a Bachelor of Science in 1998. He then attended the University of Houston Law Center, and he participated in mock trial competitions and was the president of the Student Bar Association before obtaining his Juris Doctor in 2002.
