Jon Van Steenis

Jon Van Steenis, a partner at Blue Williams, LLC, in Houston, Texas, has been with the firm since 2023. His legal journey encompasses a wide array of fields, including navigating general casualty litigation, managing municipal fire and water claims, and delving into commercial litigation. He also handles maritime and admiralty issues, facilitates alternative dispute resolution, and deals with automobile and trucking cases, medical malpractice claims, health care law, insurance matters, premises and product liability, as well as toxic torts.

Educationally, Mr. Van Steenis has a rich background, having graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California in 1996. He then pursued a Juris Doctor degree from Regent University in Virginia, completing it in 1999. His academic pursuits continued with a Master of Laws in environmental and energy law from Tulane University in New Orleans, which he attained in 2001.

Admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2016, Mr. Van Steenis has also been a member of the Louisiana Bar Association since 2000. His practice includes appearances before the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd, 5th and 6th Circuits. A member of the Houston Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute, he began his career by defending hospitals and their staff against medical malpractice allegations.

In 2006, Mr. Van Steenis transitioned to a new firm, expanding his focus to include maritime interests while continuing to defend health care clients such as skilled nursing facilities, hospitals and other health care providers. He relocated to Houston in 2017, where he continues to represent clients across Texas and Louisiana.

Mr. Van Steenis’ dedication and skill have been recognized by Houstonia Magazine, which named him one of Houston’s top health care lawyers from 2021 to 2023 and a leading medical malpractice defense attorney for 2022 and 2023. Additionally, he is a fellow of both the Houston Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation.
