A highly regarded civil trial lawyer, Joseph Marrs is a partner at Marrs Ellis & Hodge LLP. From the firm’s offices in Houston, Texas, he represents businesses and individuals throughout the state. Admitted to practice in Texas since 2002, Mr. Marrs is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. He has received numerous awards and honors from his colleagues in recognition of his successful track record and high degree of ethics, including an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and being selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America.
A significant portion of Mr. Marrs’s practice is centered on probate, estate and trust litigation. He has represented trustees, executors, estate administrators, heirs, beneficiaries, and trust settlors in a variety of actions in court and before arbitration panels. Mr. Marrs’s cases in this regard have included will contests, allegations of breaches of fiduciary duties, mismanagement of trust assets, and other complex matters, and he has been able to obtain positive results for his clients.
Mr. Marrs has handled several types of cases outside of the trusts and estates area. His experience has included personal injury and wrongful death litigation, contract breaches, reverse-mortgage scams and other types of fraud, tortious interference, and life and property insurance policy coverage claims.
As an undergraduate, Mr. Marrs attended The University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Plan II honors and Latin and receiving a Bachelor of Arts with high honors in 1998. He remained on campus for his legal studies at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, and he served on the Texas Law Review before being awarded his Juris Doctor in 2002.
