Matthew Skillern is the founder and managing attorney of Skillern Firm Divorce & Child Custody Lawyers in Houston, Texas, where he leads the practice with an unwavering commitment to Texas families. Mr. Skillern’s journey began in Stafford, Texas, where he learned the value of hard work early in life. He played collegiate football at Tyler Junior College before earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Baylor University and a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston. As a first-generation college graduate, he financed his education through determination and perseverance, qualities that now define his approach to law practice. He started his legal career as a prosecutor for the Smith County District Attorney’s Office before honing his litigation skills at a leading Houston criminal defense firm.

Admitted to practice in Texas, Mr. Skillern is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He maintains active memberships with the State Bar of Texas Family Law Section, the Houston Bar Association Family Law Section and the Fort Bend County Bar Association.
