Michael Barcus

As a co-founding partner at Barcus Arenas, PLLC, based in Houston, Texas, Michael Barcus offers legal representation to clients involved in insurance disputes throughout Texas, Louisiana and beyond. He primarily concentrates his practice area on insurance coverage litigation, with particular focus on property damage and bad faith insurance matters arising from catastrophic events and commercial losses.

Mr. Barcus represents homeowners, condominium associations and businesses in claims involving hurricane, wind, hail and fire damage. He also handles appraisal disputes, business interruption claims and cases involving insurer bad faith, helping clients navigate coverage denials, underpayments and delays. His work requires a detailed understanding of insurance policy language, claims handling practices and the legal strategies necessary to hold insurers accountable.

Mr. Barcus earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010. He then went on to pursue his legal studies at the South Texas College of Law Houston, where he developed a solid foundation in trial advocacy and civil litigation, and obtained his Juris Doctor in 2015.

Licensed to practice law in Texas and Louisiana, Mr. Barcus is authorized to practice before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.

An active participant within his legal community, Mr. Barcus is an active member of the State Bar of Texas, including its Insurance Law Section, as well as the Louisiana State Bar Association. He is also a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
