Details
Phil Griffis, a seasoned trial attorney and a fifth-generation Texan, has been asserting his legal acumen in courtrooms across Texas since obtaining his first jury verdict in 1990. Born in Austin in the 60s, his roots run deep in Texas, and he founded the Law Office of Phil Griffis in Houston. He focuses on serving his clients in matters regarding business litigation, employment litigation, personal injury defense and more.
In 1985, Mr. Griffis graduated from Baylor University with a degree in finance, initially envisioning a career in corporate law. However, his path shifted when he discovered his passion for trial advocacy at Baylor Law School, particularly through its practice court program, highly ranked by the U.S. News & World Report. After earning his law degree in 1988, he joined one of the oldest continuous law firms in Texas, where he learned from some of the state's most accomplished trial lawyers.
Mr. Griffis’ career continued to ascend as he joined a prominent downtown Houston law firm from 1992 through 2008. During this period, he enhanced his trial skills through the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s renowned 10-day program in trial advocacy. Over the years, he tried over 50 jury trials and arbitrations across Texas, achieving favorable outcomes in the vast majority of them.
Also honing his appellate skills, briefing and arguing over 15 appeals, in 2022, Mr. Griffis furthered his education by earning a master’s degree in litigation management from Baylor Law School. His proficiency in civil trial law and personal injury trial law was recognized through board certifications by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and he was also certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. In addition, he has been rated “Superb” on Avvo.
Outside the courtroom, Mr. Griffis is also deeply committed to environmental causes, particularly the preservation of Texas’s coast, bays and wildlife. His multifaceted interests underscore his broad capabilities and dedication, both professionally and personally.
