R. James Amaro Jr. founded the Amaro Law Firm in Houston, Texas, with one clear goal: to protect people facing serious legal challenges. He focuses his practice on a range of personal injury matters, including work injuries, car accidents, wrongful death, aviation accidents, trucking accidents and more. From day one, his mission has been to deliver aggressive, strategic and compassionate representation to those who need it most.

Before starting the firm, Mr. Amaro worked at some of the largest law firms in Texas and Wisconsin. He began his legal career on the defense side, representing major insurance companies. This experience gave him valuable insight into how insurers operate – and how to hold them accountable. That insider knowledge now gives his clients a critical advantage.

One of the defining moments in Mr. Amaro’s early career came when he was selected to represent victims of the British Petroleum refinery explosion in Texas City. That high-stakes case marked a turning point and established his reputation as a trusted advocate for people facing life-changing events.

Since then, Mr. Amaro has helped thousands of individuals, families and business owners resolve cases involving personal injuries, insurance claims, business disputes, hurricane losses and commercial litigation. He’s known for his relentless work ethic and results-driven approach.

Mr. Amaro earned his degree in economics from the University of Texas, where he also co-founded a successful internet startup. His background in business and economics continues to influence his practical, client-focused legal strategies. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin–Madison Law School. 

Outside the courtroom, Mr. Amaro is deeply committed to giving back. He and his wife co-founded Baseball for Babies, a nationally recognized nonprofit. He also serves on the boards of other nonprofit organizations focused on health and community support. He leads the Amaro Law Firm with integrity, experience and a passion for justice. He remains dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of the people he serves.
