Randall B. Wilhite

Randall B. Wilhite is a Shareholder with Fullenweider Wilhite, P.C., a family law firm with offices in Houston and Austin, Texas. Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1984, Mr. Wilhite has represented clients in numerous counties throughout Texas for more than 45 years. His practice concentrates on high net worth divorce, with particular depth in the characterization, valuation, and division of sophisticated assets such as trust interests, closely held businesses, private equity, carried interest, stock options, and deferred compensation.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Wilhite has earned a reputation as one of the leading family law attorneys in Texas and the nation. In addition to his extensive trial experience, he has mediated more than 2,600 cases and regularly serves as an arbitrator, a consulting expert, and a testifying expert. Whether in the courtroom or at the negotiating table, he works to resolve his clients’ disputes in the most efficient and cost-effective manner their circumstances allow.

Mr. Wilhite is also a licensed Certified Public Accountant, Accredited in Business Valuation by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. That financial training allows him to give clients practical guidance on complex property division, business valuations, taxation issues, retirement accounts, and equity compensation.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, and a Fellow of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers. He holds an AV Preeminent peer review rating* from Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2005, including Lawyer of the Year honors in Mediation for 2013 and 2022 and in Family Law Arbitration for 2023. Texas Super Lawyers has named him a Texas Super Lawyer every year since 2003, listed him among the Top 100 Lawyers in Texas six times, and included him among the Top 100 Lawyers in Houston from 2006 through 2024. His other honors include the 2017 Texas Lawyer Professional Excellence Distinguished Leader Award, the David A. Gibson Award for Demonstrating Professionalism and Excellence in the Practice of Family Law, and the Frank G. Evans Mediator of the Year Award from the State Bar of Texas.

Mr. Wilhite currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, and the University of Houston Law Center, where he teaches Texas Matrimonial Property Rights. He previously taught Texas Marital Property Rights and Texas Marital Relations and Divorce for over 15 years as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas School of Law. He also served for several years on the permanent teaching faculty of the American Bar Association Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute, including its advanced course on business valuation advocacy.

Mr. Wilhite is the author of several Thomson Reuters treatises, including the Texas Family Law Handbook, Texas Family Law Forms, and Texas Family Code Plus, an annotated Texas Family Code. He has written and presented approximately 200 continuing legal education articles at seminars and institutes in Texas, the United States and abroad. He has received the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists Award for the Best Continuing Legal Education Presentation in Texas Family Law for his work on the valuation of closely held businesses and professional practices. His recent scholarship includes an article on The Promise and Perils of Artificial Intelligence in Access to Justice, published in the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 2026.

Mr. Wilhite earned his BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in 1979, where he served on the Board of Editors of the Houston Law Review, was President of the Student Bar Association, and received the George T. Barrow Award as the graduating senior showing the most promise in the practice of law.
