Attorney Profile

Rey Flores is a trial lawyer representing plaintiffs and defendants in contract disputes, labor and employment matters, construction and real estate actions, business torts, and wrongful death and catastrophic personal injury cases.  His experience spans state and federal court litigation, individual representations and collective and class actions, and arbitrations nationwide.  A Dean's List graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and an Honors graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, Mr. Flores has tried 26 cases to verdict with 16 of those as lead counsel.

Mr. Flores enjoyed a highly successful military career as both a combat arms officer and a JAG attorney.  A former armored cavalry officer, Mr. Flores served as a tank and scout platoon leader in Iraq and as the executive officer of an armored cavalry troop in Germany.  Following the latter assignment, he was nominated and selected for a prestigious assignment as the aide-de-camp for a general officer.  In this role, the general officer for whom he worked would ultimately evaluate Mr. Flores as the best captain in the division.

As a former JAG attorney, Mr. Flores prosecuted and defended clients in military courts and in the Military Commissions in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  His experience includes some of the most high-profile, complex, and sensitive national security cases.

Mr. Flores received numerous awards throughout his military career including the Bronze Star for exemplary service in combat, three Meritorious Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Mr. Flores brings to his cases the discipline, focus, and will to win he honed during his time at West Point and in the Army.  His current and recent representations include, among others, an international construction materials manufacturer, global energy companies and oilfield services providers, and plaintiffs and defendants in overtime litigation including in a nationwide collective action with several state-level class actions.  Some of Mr. Flores's recent successes include:

  • Obtaining a $40 million judgment for an international pipeline company in a case involving complicated choice of law and forum issues.

  • Successfully representing an international oilfield services provider in a wrongful death and survival action involving multiple fatalities.

  • Successfully representing a global oil exploration and production company in a wrongful death and survival action involving a drill site fatality.

  • Successfully representing a nationwide retailer against claims of retaliation brought under the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act.

  • Successfully representing an international construction materials manufacturer against claims for indemnity and subrogation.

  • Appointment as a Special Prosecutor by the State of Texas to prosecute a high-profile case after the District Attorney’s office recused itself.

Mr. Flores has been elected a Texas Bar Foundation Fellow, an honor reserved for 1/3 of 1 percent of Texas attorneys, and is on the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston.
