In 1993, he was admitted to the State Bar of Texas and is further admitted to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court and multiple circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals.

After his transition, he served as a corporate attorney to businesses and insurance companies, which provided him with the opportunity to further understand the internal operations. As an active member of the legal community, Mr. Carty has participated in reading panels for Garner's Modern American Usage and Black's Law Dictionary in addition to serving on the Academy of American Legal Writers' Board of Advisers. He also co-chaired the national appellate practice of a large law firm. Since 2020, he has been recognized annually by the Irish Legal 100.
