He then decided to pursue his legal education at the University of Houston Law Center and was awarded his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1986. While in law school, Mr. Burford served on the Houston Law Review and upon graduation was elected to the Order of the Coif, an honor society for graduates of U.S. law schools. After graduation, he spent three years as a tax associate at Mayor, Day, Caldwell and Keeton and then began his litigation career at Gibbs and Bruns LLP, where he helped to build it into one of the nations preeminent litigation law firms--with the law firm regularly receiving local and National Honors such as the "Plaintiffs' Firms Hot List" in the National Law Journal and Best Litigation Boutique Firm in the Country by the American Lawyer. Mr Burford was managing partner or co-managing partner of Gibbs and Bruns for many of his 20 years with the firm. He started Burford Perry LLP in 2015. He regularly practices in Texas State Court and before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.

During his career, Mr. Burford has earned the respect of his colleagues for his successful track record and high degree of ethics.
