Founding Partner Scott Burdine has broad experience handling and trying complex business litigation and arbitration matters as well as cases involving serious personal injuries. He is board certified in civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction held by a small number of Texas trial attorneys. Scott has also been recognized as an outstanding lawyer by Super Lawyers in the Texas Monthly magazine in each year since 2005 and designated as a Houston Top Lawyer by H-Texas magazine. Over the past 30 years, Scott has represented plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving breach of contract, oil and gas, construction disputes, intellectual property, fraud and fraudulent inducement, securities issues, shareholder and partner disputes, insurance coverage, insurance bad faith, professional malpractice, and catastrophic vehicular and industrial accidents. Â He has also represented plaintiffs in several drug litigation mass torts, including the Actos litigation that recently resulted in a $2.4 billion settlement to qualifying plaintiffs nationwide.
Scott began his law practice in 1985 at Vinson & Elkins in Houston, where he worked on a variety of business transactions in the firm’s business/real estate/energy group before shifting his practice to trial law in 1988. He has spoken on the topics of legal ethics and malpractice prevention, has served on the HBA professionalism committee and has been treasurer of the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists. He is a past president of the University of Texas Law Alumni Association and is currently a member of the University of Texas Development Board and the Longhorn Foundation Advisory Council. He has also served as president of the West University Little League, the West University Tri-Sports Association and the South Campus Sports Association.
