Shannon M. Drehner of Drehnerlaw in Houston, Texas, serves clients across Houston and its suburbs. She focuses her practice on criminal defense, sex crimes, domestic violence plus white collar crimes, DWI, drug crimes and other criminal defense cases. She is a seasoned attorney with extensive experience as a chief felony prosecutor at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
During her tenure, Ms. Drehner led the Special Crimes Bureau, focusing on organized crime, where she handled the investigation and prosecution of criminals and criminal organizations across Harris County. She also served as a chief felony prosecutor in the Felony Trial Bureau, overseeing junior prosecutors and managing a docket of 1,000 felony cases ranging from capital murders to simple drug possession.
Before achieving the role of chief felony prosecutor, Ms. Drehner was a chief county court prosecutor, managing misdemeanor offenses such as assault, DWI and drug offenses. She also contributed to the Family Criminal Law Division, prosecuting domestic violence cases. Prior to her work in Harris County, she was a prosecutor in Broward County, Florida, where she became a lead felony prosecutor in the Felony Trial Division, handling DUI, major drug cases and violent offenses. She has conducted over 80 jury trials throughout her career.
Ms. Drehner recognizes the significant impact that pending criminal charges can have on the accused and their loved ones. Drawing on her extensive prosecutorial experience, she provides thorough and accurate assessments of each case, determining whether it should proceed to trial or if a more creative resolution is appropriate.
Currently, Ms. Drehner is licensed to practice law in both Texas and Florida, as well as in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. She is an active member of the Houston Bar Association and the American Bar Association and serves as treasurer of the Houston Bar Association Criminal Law & Procedure Section.
