Scott C. Skelton

Scott C. Skelton has been trying cases since 1992 and is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law.  Skelton has tried over fifty cases including premise liability, truck accidents, motor vehicle accidents, business disputes, wage and hour disputes, wrongful death, nuisance, wrongful termination and failed Enterprise Resource Planning software. In 2015 Skelton was involved in one of the largest verdicts in the United States in the Case of Lufkin Industries v.IBM  that was tried in the Angelina County District Court.  The jury award Lufkin Industries $29.8 million for a failed ERP implementation.  Skelton was the trial lawyer for Brookshire Brothers in the now siminal case regarding the doctrine of spoliation.  Brookshire Bros. Ltd. v. Aldridge  438 S.W.3d 9 (Tex. 2014). This case set the new standard for spoliation instructions at trial.   Skelton also helped Texas align itself with the rest of the nation in the case of Life Partners, Inc. v. Arnold,  464 S.W.3d 660 (Tex. 2015) when the Texas Supreme Court decided that life insurance viaticles are securities.  Deep in the heart of East Texas Skelton has been a part of some of Texas' and the nation's biggest cases.  Skelton also serves on the Lufkin ISD School Board and is active in the Chamber of Commerce as its Legislative Chairman.
