I’m a Partner at Freeman Mathis & Gary in Dallas. I handle various construction defect cases throughout Texas. I advocate for project owners in these claims and also defend construction professionals like design experts, materials suppliers, and contractors against allegations of defective work.
I handle a broad array of matters involving construction litigation throughout the state of Texas and nationwide. I prosecute defect claims on behalf of project owners and defend construction professionals, including design professionals, materials suppliers, and contractors from allegations that their scope of work was defective or resulted in delays. I count my blessings every day in this area of practice because it's always stimulating and exciting which, shockingly, is not always true for every lawyer.
I've also helped to build dozens of houses with Habitat for Humanity since college. My work with Habitat and my "day job" complement each other; the technical skills I've learned building houses help me better understand the requirements and difficulties of the practice of construction. To my never-ending surprise, I often find that I'm the only lawyer in the room who actually owns construction and fabrication tools and knows how to use them. That personal experience provides an understanding of the work that helps me to represent my industry clients and to find the holes in the cases of my opposition. Why be in a construction litigation practice if you don't enjoy construction?
I've been licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of Texas since November 1997. I am also admitted to practice before the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts in all four federal districts in Texas, the District of Colorado, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. In 2016, I became a member of the inaugural class of attorneys who are Board Certified in Construction Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
