Verdicts / Settlements (Case Results)
- Weinberg v. American Muslims for Palestine et al.: Motion to dismiss granted in federal court in California for failure to state a claim for relief against non-profit American Muslims for Palestine and its officers. This case included allegations under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Alien Tort Statute, attempting to hold AMP and its officers responsible for actions of others taken overseas. The judge made clear in ruling for my clients that "the complaint is entirely devoid of any specific factual allegations that AMP or anyone at AMP had any involvement" in the actions the plaintiff said led to his harm., 2026

- Argued before the D.C. Circuit Court in Jibril v. Mayorkas regarding lack of due process and transparency in the government's terrorist watchlist designations, 2024
- Counsel of Record on amicus brief to the Supreme Court of the United States in Federal Bureau of Investigation v. Fikre, addressing the rights of individuals to bring suit challenging their placements in a government watchlist even if the government removes them during the course of litigation, based on the fact that the government retains the right to place individuals back on these lists at any time and without any protections for their due process right to meaningfully challenge the placement and be heard in response., 2023
- Argued before the Fifth Circuit in Haseeb Abdullah v. Paxton, et al, challenging the constitutionality and propriety of a Texas statute that prohibits managers of state employees' retirement funds from investing in any company the State of Texas puts on its list of companies that support the Boycott, Divest, Sanction ("BDS") movement as a form of free speech., 2023

- Ghedi v. Mayorkas, 16 F.4th 456 (5th Cir. 2021): Lead counsel and oral advocate on appeal. The Fifth Circuit reversed the district court in part, finding that the United States citizen plaintiff of Somali national origin had standing to challenge his presumed placement on a government watchlist without the need for a specific itinerary or concrete travel plans for the future. Because he had established an extensive history of past travel for personal and business purposes, his allegations that he did intend to travel in the future were not "mere someday" intentions as the government characterized them. In distinguishing the default case for articulating standing, the Fifth Circuit held that "comparing Lujan to this case is an apples-to-oranges comparison" because Mr. Ghedi's injuries occurred in the "act of flying" and were not isolated to any one location. - Jibril v. Mayorkas, 20 F.4th 804 (D.C. Cir. 2021): Lead counsel and oral advocate in case challenging presumed placement of a family of seven United States citizens on the Terrorist Watchlist, and resultant searches by U.S. personnel including searching and separating a two year old child apart from his parents. Grant of motion to dismiss reversed and remanded back to district court. The D.C. Circuit held that the plaintiffs did have standing to challenge the actions of the TSA, FBI, and TSC. In finding the family members did not have to endure further harm simply to prove they remain on a government watchlist, because the government refuses to confirm or deny that fact, the D.C. Circuit described the government's argument that the family should have to do that as "heartless" and making "no sense." , 2021
- Counsel of Record and primary author, Brief of Amicus Curiae to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, 2021
- Counsel of Record on two Petitions for Writ of Certiorari to the United States Supreme Court, 2021
