Attorney Profile

Jim Spivey’s focus is on helping landowners in eminent domain cases. With a reputation for excellence and outstanding results for our landowner clients, Jim’s team has a unique blend of the experience, intellect, compassion, and grit necessary to effectively represent any landowner in any type of eminent domain case.

Jim proudly and exclusively represents landowners – you will never see Jim or his team “on the other side.”

Jim’s client base include developers, ranchers, business owners, trustees, family partnerships, and executors, among others, and they have owned the gambit of properties: commercial tracts, national chains, mixed-use developments, improved and unimproved properties, office buildings, restaurants, retail centers, family businesses, century ranches, rural residential tracts, recreational ranches, farms, industrial sites, and oil and gas parcels.

Jim Spivey is passionate about landowner rights and represents developers, business, farm and ranch owners in eminent domain and condemnation matters. Jim has represented landowners in condemnation jury trials and nearly 100 Special Commissioners’ hearings in road expansion, high voltage transmission line, school district, pipeline, drainage easement and railroad condemnation cases throughout Central and South Texas. Jim is also a strong advocate in oil and gas litigation matters.

Along with his law partner, Soledad Valenciano, Jim is the founding partner of Spivey Valenciano, PLLC. Jim has cultivated a landowner condemnation firm whose mission is to zealously represent landowners facing serious threats to the value and viability of their real estate assets. Jim adheres to one core focus: exceptional representation of property owners.

Jim spends a large part of each day analyzing market data, conducting property inspections, consulting with appraisers and brokers, and most importantly, working with his clients to promote the best outcome for their real estate holdings. Although Jim knows how to negotiate a settlement that protects his clients’ interests, he also know his way around the courthouse and doesn’t back down in a fight.

To that end, Jim and his team have created this pledge to their clients:

  • We will get to know your property, its history, and what matters to you.
  • We will analyze and leverage the law, facts and market data to prepare your case for a winning outcome at trial.
  • We do what we say we are going to do, and do it when we say we are going to do it.

Jim and his team begin every representation with certain core beliefs: every client has a fundamental desire to protect their property, to be treated fairly, and to believe their attorney will take every measure necessary to fully protect their interests.

Jim’s approach will help you rest assured that your case is in more than capable hands and that he understands your particular goals. Jim and his team will analyze every aspect of your property to leverage the greatest settlement or judgment possible. While Jim understands that not every case will ultimately be presented to a jury, and that not every landowner wants to go to trial, he prepares every case with an eye for an ultimate decision by a Texas jury. When a satisfactory compromised cannot be achieved, Jim loves the courtroom and is ready for battle.

Because Jim fundamentally believes in landowner property rights, has a keen understanding of eminent domain law, is curious and hardworking, and is respected by his adversaries as a true trial lawyer, Jim is in a position to deliver the best representation possible.
