As the President of LM Tatum, PLLC, of San Antonio, Texas, Lisa M. Tatum brings thirty years of legal experience to a practice that focuses primarily in the areas of Business and Corporate Law, Employment Law, Independent Investigations, Public Finance, simple Estate Planning and Probate, and Alternative Dispute Resolution/Mediation Services.
Ms. Tatum earned her Bachelor of Arts from Smith College in 1991 and subsequently enrolled at Santa Clara University School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctor in 1994. As a member of the State Bar of Texas, she is admitted to practice in the state courts of that jurisdiction. She has also been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.
A former Assistant Criminal District Attorney, she successfully prosecuted over 100 cases, misdemeanors and felonies, by jury and bench trials before the County and District Courts to include drug offenses, violent crimes and juvenile matters. Entering private practice, she began providing legal services to municipalities, transportation providers, school districts and private corporations. She has served as counsel to governing bodies of various entities, general counsel, litigation counsel and outside counsel to both business and individual clients. In 2004, Lisa Tatum added Public Finance to her practice areas serving as Underwriter’s Counsel and Co-Bond Counsel.
She provides legal guidance helping businesses with day-to-day operations, negotiations and resolving contract issues. In addition to she works with boards and staff on issues of Board governance, protection of intellectual property, personnel matters, as well as the development and implementation of policies and procedures among other related business needs. She helps individuals meet their legal needs. Her experience includes advocacy and advice to public, private and non-profit clients who are involved in a wide range of business operations to include certification, charitable services, construction, education, health and fitness, housing and urban development, human resources, medical equipment and supply, medical services, professional organizations, transportation, technical services, and security and protection services.
Throughout her career, Ms. Tatum has distinguished herself from her peers. She is a former Vice Chair of the Commission for Lawyer Discipline of the State Bar of Texas and a former President of the State Bar of Texas, and serves as a member several boards in her legal and local community. Ms. Tatum is also a member of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the National Conference of Bar Presidents, the Federal Bar Association – San Antonio Chapter, the Bexar County Women's Bar Association, the San Antonio Black Lawyers Association, the National Association of Bond Lawyers. She is an alumnus of Leadership San Antonio. Ms. Tatum has also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
