Attorney Profile

The founder of M. J. Hill & Associates, PLLC, Matthew J. Hill focuses his practice primarily on family law matters from the firm's office in San Marcos, Texas. Drawing upon his extensive general civil litigation experience, he provides effective advocacy for clients throughout the area, including Kyle, Austin, and New Braunfels. Admitted to practice before all Texas state courts, Mr. Hill is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.

Mr. Hill's practice largely consists of the representation of people whose marriages are coming to an end and who are thus having to deal with such related matters as property division, child and spousal support, and child custody and visitation. While he is a forceful advocate for his clients in the courtroom, his training and certification in mediation allows him to often help them reach an accord on some of these issues through the use of that alternative dispute resolution method. Mr. Hill also assists clients who have already divorced and who are seeking the modification to or the enforcement of existing support and parenting orders, and his family law background additionally includes the preparation of prenuptial and postmarital agreements, adoptions, paternity issues, and the representation of domestic violence victims who are seeking protective orders. Highly regarded by his fellow attorneys, he has received an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and a 10.0 "Superb" peer review rating through Avvo.

Mr. Hill pursued his legal education at St. Mary's University School of Law, and he served several internships while he was there, including one with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas before being awarded his Juris Doctor in 2006. He is a member of the Family Law Section of the San Antonio Bar Association and other professional groups.

*AV®, AV Preeminent®, Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished and Martindale-Hubbell Notable are certification marks used under license in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies. Martindale-Hubbell® is the facilitator of a peer review rating process. Ratings reflect the anonymous opinions of members of the bar and the judiciary. Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Rating™ fall into two categories – legal ability and general ethical standards.
