Deborah Race is an appellate attorney in Tyler, Texas. She focuses her practice on appeals, litigation support and local counsel. Ms. Race is board-certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Ms. Race received a B.S. from Texas A & M College of Dentistry and her J.D. from the University of Houston School of Law.
Ms. Race is actively involved in the field of law and has several memberships in legal organizations. She is a charter member of the T. John Ward chapter of the American Inns of Court. She is also a member of Smith County Bar Association, the Smith County Bar Foundation, the Texas Bar Foundation, ABA Bar Foundation and the Litigation Counsel of America.
Ms. Race currently serves on the Texas Bar Foundation Board. She is also an emeritus council member of the Women and the Law Section of the State Bar of Texas and serves on the Women in the Profession Committee of the State Bar as well. She was previously a council member of the Appellate Section of the State Bar. She is a former member of the Board of Disciplinary Appeals. She also served on the Grievance Committee District 2A, and was co-chair of the District 2 Nominating Committee of the Texas Bar Foundation. She was past chair of the American Institute of Appellate Practice and was past president of the Smith County Bar Association and the Smith County Bar Foundation.
Ms. Race received the the Barbara Culver Clack Award from the Women’s Section of the State Bar of Texas, Award of Excellence from the Smith County Bar Association and the Peter Perlman Service Award from the Litigation Counsel of America. Her firm was named the 2019 Law Firm of the Year for its pro bono service.
Ms. Race serves on the board of various community organizations such as the Women's Fund of Smith County and The Hospice of East Texas Foundation. Prior to these, she has served on the boards of the Smith County Bar Association, the Smith County Bar Foundation, Habitat for Humanity of Smith County, PATH and The Hospice of East Texas.
