He received his Juris Doctor in 1974, and in the same year, he obtained his license to practice law in Texas. He later became admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. Prior to attending law school, he completed his undergraduate studies in 1970, graduating with his Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas at Austin.
