After earning a Master of Arts in History at the University of Virginia, Mr. Autry enrolled at the Dickinson School of Law, which is now part of Pennsylvania State University, and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1984. Admitted to practice before all Virginia state courts, Mr. Autry is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
