Attorney Profile

Julie Hottle Day represents parties in complex family law litigation and small-business transactions and litigation. She focuses on the resolution of the unique issues that business owners and their spouses face when dissolving their marriages. A full equity partner in Culin, Sharp, Autry & Day, PLC, Julie has practiced law for more than 25 years since her graduation from the Washington and Lee University School of Law. She carries a Martindale-Hubbell Peer and Judicial Review Rating of AV (TM).

Julie's niche is representing divorcing parties who are small business owners; business professionals; professinal practice owners; and highly compensated executives, or the spouses of such individuals.  Her representation skills are unique in that few family law attorneys have the combination of experience in the areas of business, finance, and estate and trust planning necessary to skillfully navigate the issues arising in cases in which the marital assets may include a business, professional practice, or complex financial assets.

Julie is one of the most highly recognized family law attorneys in our region. Since 2005, Julie has consistently been named by Washingtonian Magazine one of the top divorce attorneys in the Washington, D.C., area. In 2015 and 2016, she was named by that publication as among the top seventy divorce attorneys in the Metro area. She has been recognized as one of Northern Virginia's top family law attorneys by Northern Virginia Magazine since 2011. In addition, after being first nominated as a Super Lawyer in 2012 and in every year since then, Julie has been listed as one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys in Virginia by Super Lawyers since 2013. In 2017, she achieved the additional honor of being named among the Top 100 Attorneys in Virginia in all practice areas. Julie is also recognized as among Virginia's Legal Elite by Virginia Business Magazine.  Julie practices in the firm’s Fairfax City and Warrenton offices and represents clients throughout Northern Virginia, including courts in the counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, Prince William and Fauquier.

In addition to enjoying the practice of law, Julie enjoys speaking on topics relating to the practice of law and presenting continuing legal education seminars. She has lectured and acted as a panelist in presentations by the National Association of Women Lawyers and the Virginia State Bar. She also presents continuing legal education seminars related to divorce matters for Virginia CLE. Julie frequently speaks before local business and interest groups on subjects involving divorce, with particular focus on the distribution in divorce of business assets and complex or high asset financial holdings.
