Details

Julie Hottle Day represents parties in complex family law litigation and small-business transactions and litigation. Julie excels at listening to and collaborating with her clients to apply the body of family law to the unique needs of each client she serves. She resolves complex issues with a combination of diplomacy, analytical skills, and creative problem solving to devise solutions for her clients and is equally effective in alternative dispute resolution or court.

Julie's niche is representing divorcing parties who are business owners, business professionals, professional practice owners, highly compensated executives, or the spouses of such individuals.  Her representation skills are unique in that few family law attorneys have the combination of experience in the areas of business, finance, and retirement asset distribution necessary to skillfully navigate the issues arising in cases in which the marital assets may include a business, professional practice, or complex financial assets, particularly including private industry retirement benefits for highly compensated executives.

Julie is one of the most highly recognized family law attorneys in our region, regularly recognized as among the top family law attorneys in the region by such publications as Washingtonian Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine, and Virginia Business Magazine. She is also highly regarded among other practitioners, receiving top peer review rankings in Best Lawyers in America, Martindale Hubbell/AVVO, and Super Lawyers. Julie practices in the firm’s Fairfax City and Warrenton offices and represents clients throughout Northern Virginia, including courts in the counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Loudoun, Prince William and Fauquier.

In addition to enjoying the practice of law, Julie enjoys speaking on topics relating to the practice of law and presenting continuing legal education seminars.  She also presents continuing legal education seminars related to divorce matters for Virginia CLE. Julie frequently speaks before local business and interest groups on subjects involving divorce, with particular focus on the distribution in divorce of business assets and complex or high asset financial and retirement holdings.

Outside of her practice, Julie is passionate about the benefits of liberal arts education and has served her alma mater, Lycoming College, as an Alumni Association Board officer, an Annual Fund Chair, a member of the President's Leadership Council and, most recently, as a member of its Board of Trustees.
