Matthew J. Yao

Attorney Matthew J. Yao is an owner of the Woehrle Dahlberg Yao PLLC law firm, which has numerous locations throughout Virginia as well as one in Washington, D.C. Serving the needs and interests of a diverse range of clients across the region, Mr. Yao provides exceptional representation and support to those who have legal needs involving any of the following:

Throughout the course of his career spanning more than eight years, Mr. Yao has achieved notable success advocating on behalf of immigrants as well as families dealing with complex legal challenges regarding criminal charges brought against their children along with those going through the emotional and difficult divorce process. Through his estate planning practice, he has assisted numerous clients with protecting themselves and their assets for the future while helping them to create a lasting legacy for their loved ones.

Recognized for his impeccable professionalism and service, Mr. Yao has received numerous awards and honors, including a designation from the American Academy of Trial Attorneys as one of the nation's Premier 100 Civil Attorneys. He also received the Top 40 Under 40 in Virginia award from both the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys and the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys, and the American Society of Legal Advocates voted him among the Top 40 Under 40 in the country.

A 2007 graduate of the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce, Mr. Yao returned to his alma mater and obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2010. The Virginia State Bar admitted him to practice that same year, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.

Fully committed to his practice, Mr. Yao is a member of the Fairfax Bar Association, where he sits on the juvenile and domestic relations district court committee, and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Virginia, where he is a member of the judicial screening committee. He is also an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Virginia State Bar. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and has staff that are fluent in Spanish.
