Michael J. Shevlin

An AV Preeminent* peer-review rated attorney, Michael J. Shevlin serves as the principal at Shevlin Smith. He takes on cases from throughout Virginia and the District of Columbia, from his office located in Fairfax, Virginia. His practice is exclusively focused on personal injury, with special attention to medical malpractice cases and he has been serving the area for the past three decades. 

Mr. Shevlin secured his undergraduate degree in government and international studies from the University of Notre Dame in 1989. Later, he pursued law at the University of Virginia School of Law and graduated in 1992 with a Juris Doctor degree. Within a year of graduation, he joined the Office of the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorneys as an assistant lawyer. There, he played a significant role in prosecuting criminals facing charges of misdemeanor and serious felony offenses. 

Joining Shevlin Smith about two years later, Mr. Shevlin has been garnering experience working on cases involving catastrophic injuries such as limb amputations, serious burns, internal organ damage, and spinal cord and brain injuries. He understands the hopelessness that a victim experiences when they succumb to a serious injury or suffers a heart-wrenching loss of a loved one due to the neglect of others.
