R. Peyton Mahaffey is an attorney and the current chairman of the board at McCandlish Lillard. Beginning his legal career in 1980, he has dedicated over four decades to litigating business, corporate, commercial and fiduciary matters. He is adept at handling both jury and nonjury cases, and he has a proven track record of writing and arguing appellate briefs to the Virginia Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
Mr. Mahaffey’s extensive experience encompasses roles as a trial lawyer and lead counsel in numerous state and federal cases, as well as in arbitration and mediation settings. His legal acumen has made him the principal attorney on many reported state and federal decisions.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Mahaffey has represented a diverse clientele that includes business leaders, contractors, architects, property managers, investment advisers, banks, medical practitioners and technology entrepreneurs, among others. He has successfully navigated complex legal landscapes involving shareholder disputes, partnership dissolutions and significant fiduciary and estate cases.
