As a member of Wexell Milman, located in Fairfax, Virginia, Richard M. Wexell devotes his practice to issues pertaining to family law, representing clients throughout the Northern Virginia area in a variety of matters, including child support, custody and visitation, and divorce. He also counsels clients on spousal support, division of assets and liabilities, domestic violence, post-divorce modifications, grandparent rights, prenuptial agreements, paternity issues and parental relocation. While he attempts to resolve issues for his clients through negotiation, he is a skilled and tenacious litigator.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude in 1974 from Brandeis University in Massachusetts, Mr. Wexell earned his Juris Doctor at The George Washington University Law School in 1977. That year, he was admitted to the Virginia State Bar, allowing him to practice before the state courts of that jurisdiction. Mr. Wexell was subsequently admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 1980.
The firm of Wexell Milman began as a solo practice started by Mr. Wexell in 1981. At that time, Mr. Wexell also focused on family law matters, representing clients in and around Fairfax County. His firm has represented clients not only in Northern Virginia trial courts, but also on appeal to the Court of Appeals of Virginia as well as the Supreme Court of Virginia, the state's highest court.
Mr. Wexell has been rated AV Preeminent* by Martindale-Hubbell, and "Northern Virginia Magazine" named Mr. Wexell as one of Northern Virginia's top divorce lawyers. Various organizations, including the American Bar Association and local and state professional groups, frequently ask him to deliver lectures on a variety of family law topics, such as property division, child custody and spousal support.
