Robert J. Stoney

Robert J. Stoney is an attorney and principal at Blankingship & Keith, PC, in Fairfax, Virginia with more than three decades of legal experience.  Rob’s practice focuses on major automobile, commercial truck and bus crashes, products liability, wrongful death and traumatic brain injury cases.  He practices in courts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and has litigated cases throughout the United Sates, and as far away as Germany, Australia and China. 

Rob has a simple litigation philosophy  - he takes a few cases and devotes his full attention to those he represents. His clients are often very badly hurt and the defendants are typically corporations or individuals who have refused to take responsibility for their actions.  “We understand that our client's and their families' lives have been shattered by the carelessness of others and that they rely on us to help them rebuild their lives.”

Rob has a strong and long standing commitment to our community, both locally and statewide. He has initiated a program to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety. He has dedicated thousands of hours to pro bono and legal aid programs to ensure that everyone, no matter how poor or disenfranchised, has equal access to justice. Through "Trial Lawyers Still Care" he encourages all Virginia trial lawyers to take at least one deserving case each year and donate the amount that would have been their fee to legal aid for the poor. 

Rob has been AV rated* since 1998, through Martindale-Hubbell.  The Best Lawyers in America has identified him as a "Best Lawyer"  for the past 20 years, naming him Lawyer of the Year in Products Liability three times. 

The Fairfax County Bar Association honored him with the James Keith Public Service Award in 1997 and in 2009 the Supreme Court of Virginia recognized him for Extraordinary Public Service to the Supreme Court.   Rob is a member of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners, a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a member of the Virginia State Bar.

In 1982, Mr. Stoney received a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia. He earned his law degree in 1987 from William & Mary Law School. While in law school, he served on the William & Mary Law Review Editorial Board and belonged to the Order of the Coif.
