Susan Massie Hicks brings more than three decades of experience to bear in her representation of clients in northern Virginia. Focusing her practice exclusively on family law matters, she assists people in highly contested cases who are confronted with issues including complex property division and high asset business valuations, as well as acrimonious child custody and visitation issues. Ms. Hicks also assists affluent clients who are considering pre-marital or pre-nuptial agreements, including local business owners, highly compensated executives, and professional athletes.

Ms. Hicks graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Science.  She attended Georgetown University Law Center and was awarded her Juris Doctor in 1980 before being admitted to practice in Virginia that same year.  Her impressive record of achievement has resulted in numerous accolades from other attorneys. A fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Ms. Hicks has received an AV-Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell. She has also been selected as Lawyer of the Year, Family Law, 2017 in The Best Lawyers in America. Ms. Hicks is frequently asked to deliver presentations on family law topics and ethical issues at bar associations and continuing legal education seminars, and she is among the distinguished speakers at the Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Course, which is mandatory for all newly admitted Virginia attorneys.

Ms. Hicks is an active participant in a variety of professional organizations, including the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Virginia Women Attorneys Association, and the Fairfax Bar Association.  She has previously served as a member of the board of governors of the Virginia Bar Association and has been the chair of the Family Law section of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.  She is also a past president of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association.
