    Attorney Profile

Katharine has extensive experience in all areas of family law from handling complex custody matters to unique property divisions as well as support matters.  Katharine is passionate about her career - she does not create family law disputes, but she enjoys being part of the solution and advocating on behalf of her clients. Ideally family matters are resolved outside of litigation where both parties agree to a solution; unfortunately, settlement is not always possible.  Katharine is a strong advocate both in negotiating settlements as well as litigating before judges when the parties are not able to agree upon settlement terms.

Katharine is a Fellow of the distinguished American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers as well as a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL), where she serves as a Vice President of the US Chapter of the IAFL.

Katharine has lectured on family law issues both domestically as well as internationally.  Katharine has also published several articles related to Virginia family law matters and co-authored the Virginia chapter of an international treatise on family law.  Katharine has been selected as a "Super Lawyer" by Super Lawyers Magazine and as a "Top Lawyer" by Northern Virginia Magazine.  She has also been recognized as one of the top lawyers in the field of family law by Virginia Business Magazine and she has received the top rating possible, "Superb, 10 out of 10" from the AVVO ratings website.

Raised in Virginia, Katharine attended the University of Virginia and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 2006. She then pursued her legal studies at The George Washington University Law School and received her Juris Doctor with honors in 2001. While there, Ms. Maddox was the chair of the school's Committee on Academic Integrity.
