Katharine has extensive experience in the area of family law, having exclusively practiced family law throughout her career.  Katharine has lectured on family law issues in the United States as well as in other countries.  Katharine has also published several articles related to Virginia family law matters and co-authored the Virginia chapter of an international treatise on family law.  Katharine is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers as well as the International Academy of Family Lawyers.  Katharine has been selected as a "Super Lawyer" by Super Lawyers Magazine and as a "Top Lawyer" by Northern Virginia Magazine.  She has also been recognized as one of the top lawyers in the field of family law by Virginia Business Magazine and she has received the top rating possible, "Superb, 10 out of 10" from the AVVO ratings website.   

Raised in Virginia, Ms. Maddox attended the University of Virginia and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 2006. She then pursued her legal studies at The George Washington University Law School and received her Juris Doctor with honors in 2001. While there, Ms. Maddox was the chair of the school's Committee on Academic Integrity. Admitted to practice before all Virginia state courts, she has received a 10.0 "superb" peer review rating through Avvo.

Ms. Maddox lived in Italy from 2006 to 2008, and that was one factor in her developing a keen interest in international family law matters. She continues to stay abreast of current developments in that area as a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. Ms. Maddox has delivered several presentations to members of the USA Chapter of that organization, including two on the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. She has had articles on family law topics published in legal journals. Ms. Maddox is also a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and an active participant in the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Fairfax Bar Association.
