After spending nearly a decade as a Navy pilot, he then attended the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1977. Admitted to practice in Virginia, Mr. Harris is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has been certified as a specialist in civil trial law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 1985, and he is a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice and the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association.

Mr. Harris has published numerous articles on subjects ranging from the cross-examination of expert witnesses to the deterrent value of punitive damages in drunk driving accident injury cases.
