C. Arthur Rutter, III

C. Arthur Rutter III is the managing partner of Rutter Mills, LLP, located in Norfolk, Virginia, where he offers legal representation across a range of complex civil matters. With decades of experience, he has developed a practice focused on advocating for individuals and families affected by serious injuries and wrongful loss.

Mr. Rutter’s practice encompasses personal injury, wrongful death, admiralty and maritime law, and motor vehicle accidents. He represents clients in cases involving significant physical, emotional and financial harm, working to secure fair compensation while guiding them through the legal process. His approach emphasizes thorough case preparation, strategic litigation and client-centered service.

Academically accomplished, Mr. Rutter earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law in 1994, after completing his Bachelor of Arts at Harvard University in 1986. In the same year he received his law degree, he was admitted to practice in Virginia. He subsequently gained admission to the bars of North Carolina in 1994, South Carolina in 1995 and Florida in 1996, allowing him to serve clients across multiple jurisdictions.

Mr. Rutter is actively involved in the legal community. He is a member of the Virginia Bar Association, the Norfolk & Portsmouth Bar Association and the Virginia Beach Bar Association. He also maintains affiliations with the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Association for Justice and the Maritime Law Association.
