John C. Shea is an accomplished personal injury attorney and partner at the law firm of Marks & Harrison in Richmond, Virginia. He was first admitted to practice in Virginia in 1977 and has gone on to build a strong reputation since then. 

Over his career spanning over 45 years, Mr. Shea has supported a diverse range of clients across his region who have been injured due to slip-and-fall accidents, animal attacks, nursing home neglect, car accidents, bicycle and pedestrian accidents, and tractor-trailer and semi-truck accidents. He also assists with Social Security Disability and workers’ compensation cases. 

Known in the legal community for his commitment and in-depth legal knowledge, Mr. Shea has secured millions of dollars in total compensation and restitution on behalf of his plaintiff clients. Some of his representative results have included a $12 million compensation for a client who was paralyzed in a garbage truck wreck, an`$11 million verdict for a woman who sustained a traumatic brain injury, a $10 million settlement for a client injured in a railroad accident and a $7 million compensation for a client injured in a drunk driving accident.

A former president of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Mr. Shea is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. He is an active member of the American Association for Justice, the American Board of Trial Advocates and The Virginia Bar Association. He also served as a board member of the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America.

A cum laude bachelor’s graduate of Wake Forest University, Mr. Shea earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law in 1977. He has been honored in many ways for adding more value to the legal community. He was included in the 2010 Legal Elite list by the Virginia Business magazine and was offered the “Lawyer of the Year” award in product liability litigation by Best Lawyers in 2010. He was also listed among the Leaders in the Law by Virginia Lawyers Weekly in 2017.

A talented speaker and writer, Mr. Shea has appeared as a guest speaker at several national conferences and presented at multiple continuing legal education seminars across the United States. Moreover, he has written a number of articles on a wide range of personal injury matters for many esteemed publications.
