James W. Hundley, a founding partner of Briglia Hundley, P.C., in Tysons Corner, Virginia, is a formidable advocate for both individuals and businesses in the state and federal courts across Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. His legal practice focuses on criminal defense, particularly white collar crimes, business litigation, and personal injury, including wrongful death actions.
Mr. Hundley has adeptly defended clients entangled in complex criminal matters including bank fraud, bid rigging, bribery, embezzlement, tax evasion and computer fraud. On the civil front, he has successfully litigated cases involving personal injuries, including wrongful death, breach of contract, tortious interference with business, theft of trade secrets, and civil rights violations.
Mr. Hundley has also appeared extensively before appellate courts. Notably, in April 2000, he stood before the U.S. Supreme Court to argue the landmark case of Dickerson v. United States, which affirmed the constitutional necessity of Miranda warnings. He has made numerous appearances before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, the Supreme Court of Virginia, and the Court of Appeals of Virginia.
Mr. Hundley graduated from Georgetown University Law Center and was licensed to practice law in Virginia in 1989. His early career included a clerkship with the Honorable James C. Cacheris in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia followed by his service as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney in the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County until 1996. In 1997, he co-founded Briglia Hundley, P.C.
Mr. Hundley is an active member of the Virginia State Bar. In July of 2022, Mr. Hundley was appointed by the Virginia Supreme Court to serve as an at-large member of the Virginia State Bar Council, the governing body of the State Bar. He was appointed to the Virginia State Bar’s Committee on Lawyer Discipline in 2014 and completed the maximum six-years of service in 2020. During his tenure, he served as Chairman of the Committee for one year and Chairman of the Rules Subcommittee for two years.
