David E. Roop, Jr.

David E. Roop Jr., the founder and managing principal at Roop Xanttopoulos Babounakis & Klam PLLC in Vienna, Virginia, has been dedicated to family and domestic relations law since 1996. Over the years, he has handled numerous cases involving equitable distribution, support and custody. Before honing his skills in family law, he spent five years, from 1991 to 1996, as a trial lawyer in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia, dealing with contract, tort and malpractice defense.

A 1985 B.A. cum laude graduate from the University of Notre Dame, Mr. Roop also earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 1991. He is licensed to practice law in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Before embarking on his legal career, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kongolo, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo).

For over a decade, Mr. Roop has held an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell. From 2004 to 2005, he led the Virginia State Bar's Standing Committee on Professionalism. Subsequently, he was appointed by the chief judge of the Supreme Court of Virginia to teach professionalism courses across the state for three years. Currently, he serves on a Virginia State Bar disciplinary committee that evaluates lawyer misconduct.

Mr. Roop has twice graced the cover of Virginia Lawyers Weekly and was celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to spousal support and domicile matters. He has earned a place among The Best Lawyers in America and has been spotlighted by Washingtonian, Northern Virginia Magazine and Richmond magazine.

In February 2009, Mr. Roop embarked on a new journey by founding Roop Xanttopoulos Babounakis & Klam PLLC, following 13 years of dedicated service at a family law firm in McLean, Virginia, and its earlier iterations. He brings a profound awareness of the emotional and financial hurdles accompanying divorce. His approach to family law is characterized by an unwavering commitment to fairness, a wealth of trial experience, sharp mathematical insight, adeptness in the courtroom, a deep understanding of children's needs and a steadfast dedication to finding solutions that prioritize the well-being of the family.
