Bruce Aitken is an attorney practicing in international law at the law firm of Aitken Berlin, where he is a partner. With over 44 years of experience, he concentrates his practice on customs and international trade, government procurement and Homeland Security concerns in Washington, D.C., and across New York.

Mr. Aitkin started his professional life by working at World Bank and later became a partner with private and international law firms. Then, in 1995, he co-founded Aitken Berlin and, in 1996, served as the legal adviser of China’s State Planning and Development Administration.

A graduate of Fordham University with a bachelor’s degree in economics, Mr. Aitkin completed his master’s degree in international business from Columbia University Graduate School of Business (now called Columbia Business School – Columbia University) in 1971. In 1972, he enrolled in the American University Washington College of Law and received his doctorate in jurisprudence in 1976.

Mr. Aitkin had the unique honor of being the only American to be named to the Dispute Resolution Panels of the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA). At the American University Washington College of Law, he created and taught a course about trade negotiations for four years.

Working with the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and the Malaysian Bar Council, Mr. Aitkin established the Trade Negotiations Training Center in Malaysia in 2016. He also formed Homeland Security Industries Association (HSIA) in 2002. He was the chairperson of the Computer and Communications Industry Association in Brussels and Washington, D.C., and is the vice chair of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association Legal Development and Training committee.

Additionally, Mr. Aitkin provides counsel in the field of film law, being an honored feature and documentary film producer. He has published several articles in his field of interest and is a regular speaker at legal conferences and lectures.
