George R. Pitts is a professed attorney serving clients throughout Washington, D.C., from the law firm of Birch Horton Bittner & Cherot. After graduating with his Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from Swarthmore College in 1972, Mr. Pitts received his Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania in 1975 and 1977, respectively. Later in 1983, he obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Mr. Pitts was first admitted to practice in Virginia in 1985 and is also licensed to appear in California, the District of Columbia, the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Central, Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of California, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the U.S. District Court for the Western and Eastern Districts of Virginia. He has also dealt with several cases in the bankruptcy courts of Delaware, Texas, Nevada, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida and more.
With a reputation for commitment, Mr. Pitts has proficiently represented the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC). He helps with loan restructurings, creditors’ rights, mechanic’s liens, partnership disputes, business torts, settlements outside courts and commercial litigation.
When not lawyering, Mr. Pitts stays involved with his legal circle. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the former director of the board and the chairman of the Richmond Bar Association. He is a research fellow at the American Council of Learned Societies and has also penned several articles for publications on bankruptcy law.
