Marcia B.F. Kuntz

A co-founder of Smollar Kuntz Locey, PLLC, located in Washington, D.C., family law attorney, Marcia B.F. Kuntz also functions as a principal at the firm. She is admitted to practice in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. She has extensive experience litigating and negotiating a wide variety of family law cases, including resolving legal matters regarding LGBTQ+ law.

Ms. Kuntz’s legal practice covers areas of family law including divorce and separation, child custody and support, and pre- and postnuptial agreements. She is adept in the nuances of domestic relations law and uses her emotional intelligence to try to diffuse tensions and find the solutions sought by her clients. Her efficiency with the methods of alternate dispute resolution allows her to save her clients’ time and resources, and avoid complicating the matter at hand. She is known to strategize creative solutions tailored to the needs of her clients. 

A 1984 graduate of Princeton University, Ms. Kuntz received her Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1989. After receiving her license in the same year as her graduation, she stepped into the legal profession as an associate at a private law firm.

Ms. Kuntz has lent her services as legislative counsel and committee staffer at the U.S. House of Representatives and as a judicial selection project director for a judicial advocacy group known as the Alliance for Justice. Apart from this, she has spent a significant number of years working in a nonprofit media organization as its editor-in-chief and later, as a senior vice president.

With her in-depth knowledge of family law, Ms. Kuntz has taught as an adjunct at the American University Washington College of Law.

In addition to her private practice, Ms. Kuntz uses her advocacy skills for the good of society by providing mentoring services for The District of Columbia Bar’s Advocacy & Justice Clinic.
