Sara Kropf

I have over two decades of experience as a white collar criminal defense attorney. I handle all types of white collar cases including accounting fraud, health care fraud, government contracting fraud, public corruption and conspiracy. In addition, I represent defendants in complex civil litigation, including cases involving claims of defamation, breach of contract and civil fraud. I have tried cases across the country and am a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. 

After spending ten years at a big law firm in Washington, DC—including four as a partner—I decided to start my own practice. Our firm has now grown into Kropf Moseley Schmitt PLLC. 

I am licensed in D.C., Maryland and Virginia and have handled cases in the state and federal systems in all three jurisdictions, as well as many others nationwide.

I author a blog on white collar prosecutions of corporate executives called www.grandjurytarget.com. I have been a frequent speaker and panelist on white collar crime, including for the D.C. Bar, the American Bar Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. 

By way of background, I graduated from Georgetown University Law Center with honors. I then clerked for a federal court of appeals judge in Baltimore, Maryland. After that, I started at Baker Botts L.L.P. as an associate and was made partner in 2009. During my time at Baker Botts, I handled both white collar criminal defense cases and civil litigation for both Fortune 500 corporations and individuals. I also represented, on a pro bono basis, defendants in criminal cases, including a death penalty case.

I am currently a member of the Governing Board of the Legal Counsel for the Elderly.
