Since 1993, Kara has practiced in Washington, Idaho, Oregon (currently inactive), and Alaska (currently inactive).  She clerked for three judges on the Washington State Court of Appeals, Divisions I and II.  Kara is currently “Of Counsel” to two firms: Masters Law Group PLLC (www.appeal-law.com) for non-litigated matters and Moberg Law Group, PS (www.moberglawgroup.com) for litigated matters.  Her current practice focuses on civil appeals with MLG.  She also has expertise in complex insurance coverage, employment consultation, commercial and non-profit risk management, general commercial, construction and contract disputes.  Kara has served as chair of the Equal Justice Coalition (www.ejc.org) since 2022, lobbying for civil legal aid at the state and national levels.  She is currently serving as the EJC representative on the Civil Legal Needs Scoping Committee established by the Supreme Court and the Office of Civil Legal Aid to plan for an update to Washington's Civil Legal Needs Study.  She previously served as the Supreme Court appointee to the Board of Trustees for the Legal Foundation of Washington, and as its President (www.legalfoundation.org).  Both organizations support statewide access to civil legal aid.  Kara also served on the board, as chair, and as a community volunteer for the Coalition Ending Gender Based Violence (www.EndGV.org).  Kara also served on the board, as President, and as a volunteer for New Beginnings.  Kara is also pro bono immigration attorney in Washington and Texas.

  • Member & EJC Representative, Washington Civil Legal Needs Study Scoping Committee, convened by the Supreme Court and the Office of Civil Legal Aid to plan for an update of the State's Civil Legal Needs Study, which will allow policy makers and civil legal aid providers to respond effectively to changes in needs over the past decade; to understand and assess the justice gap in Washington; to assess the effectiveness and costs of possible solutions; and to identify barriers to accessing legal assistance.  , 2023
