Brent Thompson

Brent Thompson is a tenacious criminal defense attorney and partner at Platt, Thompson and Buescher, Attorneys at Law. He has been serving the residents of Coupeville, Washington, for over a decade as part of the firm. His practice is solely devoted to advocating for the rights and freedoms of individuals facing charges of murder, vehicular homicide and assault, sexual abuse, reckless driving, domestic violence, driving under the influence, drug offenses and other related cases at state and federal levels.

Mr. Thompson also assists with post-conviction relief, including firearm rights restorations and sealing juvenile records. In addition to criminal matters, he offers fervent representation in protection order proceedings and family law cases. Hailing from Whidbey Island, Mr. Thompson majored in social studies and completed his Bachelor of Arts at Western Washington University in 2007. Four years later, he received his Juris Doctor cum laude with dean’s list honors from the Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 2012, he was admitted to practice in Washington and later before the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

Mr. Thompson scrutinizes police reports, witness statements and other evidence to pinpoint legal and factual issues in claims against his clients. His knowledge of search and seizure law, rules of evidence, criminal procedure, statutory law, and legal research/writing has caused major challenges for prosecutors. He has also effectively persuaded courts to suppress problematic blood and breath test results, incriminating statements and unfavorable video recordings.

A respected member of his legal community, Mr. Thompson holds memberships in the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and served as a board member of the Volunteer Lawyer Program of Island County. He is also a sought-after presenter at conferences and seminars, delivering talks on subjects related to his area of practice.
