Lee Smart, P.S., Inc. began in 1913 as an insurance defense firm and our firm continues to pride itself on offering cost-effective service to companies and individuals in the area of civil litigation defense. The majority of our practice is litigation and we engage in general civil and trial practice in state and federal courts throughout Washington, as well as in administrative proceedings. Because of this, our lawyers possess a wealth of experience actually trying cases that many other firms cannot offer.

With decades of experience in defending all types of cases, our attorneys have extensive knowledge in a wide range of litigation, including premises liability, construction liability, product liability, liquor liability, defense of major defendants in toxic-tort claims and fire and property-damage subrogation. We have represented professionals such as physicians and other health care providers, dentists, attorneys, accountants, architects, engineers and real estate and insurance agents and brokers, among many others.

We have defended clients against claims of harassment, wrongful discharge, whistle-blowing and discrimination claims, and have done so before federal and state courts, the EEOC, Office of Civil Rights and other state and administrative agencies. We have represented many municipalities and more than 40 school districts in claims of employer liability, sex and race discrimination and personal injury.

Having handled a large volume of insurance coverage issues for insurers and policyholders, our firm is uniquely qualified to provide insurer clients with coverage evaluations and advice. Our sizeable appellate practice has brought our attorneys into the courtrooms of the Washington State Court of Appeals, the Washington Supreme Court, several districts and circuits of the United States District Court and Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
