Verdicts/Settlements (Case Results):
  • Successfully defended decision of Washington Superior Court in dissolution matter through motion for reconsideration, collateral attack in federal court, and appeal to Washington Court of Appeals.Husband was unhappy with the outcome of his divorce. He filed suit in federal court alleging, among (approximately eight) other claims, fraudulently induced marriage and illegal immigration claims. At the point I took over the case, most deadlines had passed to dispose of the otherwise frivolous suit other than a motion for summary judgment. I successfully filed for summary judgment claiming lack of federal jurisdiction to hear the dissolution matter and lack of standing by Husband to assert criminal immigration claims. The judge agreed, and granted summary judgment for Wife. While Husband’s federal law suit was pending, he filed a motion for reconsideration in state court. After my briefing in response to his motion, the judge denied his motion. After his motion for reconsideration was denied in state court, and after the federal judge granted summary judgment for my client, Husband appealed his divorce decree to the state court of appeals. I successfully defended the decision of the state trial court on appeal, and was successful in obtaining my client an award of attorneys fees and sanctions for Husband’s continued and frivolous litigation of the decision of the Superior Court. , 2021
  • Alleged domestic violence assault dismissed. I successfully obtained a dismissal of a charge of assault in the fourth degree for my client who was helping his wife escape a sexual assault. My client’s wife, the alleged victim, told the police her husband had not assaulted her, and he was rescuing her from being sexually assaulted by another man. I set the case for trial and the prosecutor ultimately dismissed the case., 2022
  • Case dismissed for violation of client’s speedy trial right. I obtained a dismissal with prejudice for a client facing a charge of attempted destruction of public records after the City, her former employer, failed to bring her to trial within her speedy trial right. The city had charged my client with attempted destruction of public records after she deleted calendar events from her Outlook calendar. The deleted calendar entries were ultimately retrieved, and the investigating officer determined no crime had occurred. Nevertheless, the City charged her and the attempt designation lowered the charge from a felony to a gross misdemeanor, thus allowing the City to retain jurisdiction over the case in its municipal court. I suspect she would have won had the case proceeded to trial, but I was happy to have the case dismissed for her., 2022
  • Client acquitted by jury on alleged violation of no contact order. I successfully defended a client charged with the gross misdemeanor offense of violation of a no contact order at trial. I was able to show the jury the alleged victim was lying in court by playing for the jury her recorded statements at the time of the incident. The jury acquitted my client., 2022
