As a volunteer for Mary’s Place, a homeless shelter for women and children, Julie uses her legal expertise to advocate for those who need it most. Prior to practicing law, Ms. Sommer worked in political consulting and as a lobbyist for the Washington State Association for Justice.
A native of Martins Ferry, Ohio, Julie earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of an NCAA National Championship swim team. Formally listed among the top ten in the World Swim Rankings, Julie was also a member of the United States Swimming National Team. She was an individual Conference champion as a freshman, a four-time NCAA All-American, and competed in the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials.
